TEAM Georgia Backgrounder

Since 1985, TEAM Georgia has worked to save lives and reduce injuries on Georgia’s roads and waterways. TEAM Georgia is a safe and sober driving coalition, comprised of business leaders, government and public safety officials, and members of Atlanta’s professional sporting teams. Our unique alliance joins the state’s most prominent and progressive champions of highway safety with Georgia’s professional sporting heroes.

Mission Statement:

To serve as an effective and progressive highway and waterway safety advocacy group, encouraging safe and sober driving choices as a means of reducing transportation crashes, serious injuries and fatalities.  TEAM Georgia volunteers educate fans and concert goers about the impaired driving (alcohol and drugs) and distracted driving (mainly cell phone use).

Board of Directors:

TEAM Georgia draws its strength from the varied talents and resources of its many players. The TEAM Georgia Board of Directors now numbers well over 25 leaders from Georgia’s premier corporations, professional sporting teams, media outlets and private safety organizations, and also includes key representatives from the highway safety community in the areas of legislation, enforcement and public education.

Current TEAM Georgia programs. . .

 * Designated Driver Booths have been located at the Georgia Dome, Philips Arena, the Infinite Energy Arena in Gwinnett County and Turner Field. TEAM Georgia’s Designated Driver/ SAFE Driver Booth volunteers encourage the use of a designated driver when attending sporting, music and cultural events.  TEAM Georgia volunteers asks fans to sign up prior to and during games and other events at our venues.  Since the Designated Driver Booth Program began, over 650,000 fans have registered to serve as Designated Driver and receive information on impaired driving and Georgia’s DUI laws. Our volunteers also offer timely information on impaired and distracted driving since these factors are contributing more and more to motor vehicle crashes in our state.

*The Safe Holiday campaign, a metro-wide program to unite Atlanta employers, members of the hospitality community, and restaurants and bars in encouraging safe and responsible holiday celebrations. Last year, more than 100 local bars and restaurants participated in the campaign; while more than 500 Safe Holiday corporate guides were distributed through many community organizations.

*Public Service Messages at the Infinite Energy Center Arena remind fans and visitors not to drive motor vehicles when under the influence of alcohol and drugs, as well as to obey the Hands-Free Georgia Law that went in to effect July 1, 2018.

*Seat Belt Programs. As one the state’s most vocal advocates for seat belt use, TEAM Georgia works in partnership with national and state highway safety officials to support Georgia’s Primary Seat Belt Law and encourage habitual seat belt and child safety seat use. Buckle Up Georgia!
