Obituary--Sandy Gann Kinnard

Friday, August 28, 2020

Subject:  Sandy Kinnard

We just received very troubling and sad news that Sandy Kinnard passed away last night from pneumonia and COVID-19. As we receive more details about funeral arrangements and other plans, we will cascade this information out to everyone.

Sandy was the heart and soul of TEAM Georgia and I cannot adequately describe the full impact of how much we will miss her presence. As a team leader at many TEAM Georgia designated driver booths over almost 3 decades, Sandy offered a high level of leadership and volunteerism that will not be easily duplicated—if at all.

As the family has requested, please continue to pray for them as they navigate through this incredibly challenging period.

With a heavy heart,

Bob Cucchi

It’s time to make yourself legal for the July 1st start of Hands-Free Act

    June 2018

Add News Story hereThe July 1st Hands-Free Georgia Act meets Georgians at the intersection of driving and phones. Any changes with either are not just about enforcement, they are culture-shock.

As we covered here last week, the amended "Anti-Texting Law" now bans drivers from holding or resting phones while they use them anywhere on their bodies, period. The law allows people to dial phone numbers and adjust GPS navigation, as long as the phone is in a holder, on the seat, or on the console (again, not on the person). The law allows zero device-touching for texting, adjusting streaming apps, social media, emails, or anything else. Drivers can do those things completely hands-free or through a car entertainment system in the dashboard. And the law completely bans watching or shooting videos from behind the wheel of a moving vehicle.

State Gearing Up For Widespread DUI Enforcement on St. Patrick’s Day Weekend

    March 2017

A Volunteer's Experience with TEAM Georgia

    February 2017

I started volunteering with Team Georgia two years ago. Like many of the volunteers I worked at the Georgia Dome, I came across the opportunity from someone I know, in this case my son. He had been working with the group for some time and thought it would be an activity that I would find rewarding and enjoyable. He was right!

    Traffic Deaths on the Rise

    January 2017

According to the National Highway Safety Administration, US traffic deaths surged about 8 percent in the first 9 months of 2016. This continues an alarming upward spiral that may only partially be explained by additional Americans travelling more due to our nation’s economic recovery. Other contributing factors are:  weather, distracted and impaired driving as well as passengers not wearing seat belts.

    March 2016

Atlantic Station was again the venue for this year’s Shamrock the Station event on Saturday, March 12, 2016. Checker Cab participated in the Atlantic Station celebration this year by setting up a tent on the corner of Tower and Market Streets from noon-9:30pm. To further help raise the awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving, TEAM Georgia was asked by Checker Cab to participate in their activity during the day by signing up designated drivers so event participants got home safely.

TEAM Georgia Update on the Responsibility Bowl

    November 2015

The Atlanta Falcons were eliminated somewhat decisively by the Kansas City Chiefs last weekend in the 2015 TEAM Coalition Responsibility Bowl. We should take heart in the fact that the Chiefs have more designated drivers signed up to date than any other NFL team this season.  Losing to the eventual winner of the entire competition has some consolation, but we are still dealing with the psychological impact of this loss.

    2015 Responsibility Bowl

    October 2015

We edged out the Seattle Seahawks to advance to Round 3 of the 2015 Responsibility Bowl (see graphics below).  In Round 3, we will face off against the Kansas City Chiefs.  They lead the NFL in DD signatures, so we have a worthy opponent.  Please continue to work hard and secure signatures, if you volunteer at the Dome for Falcons games. We need to continue to remind fans about the choices we make regarding drinking alcohol and driving motor vehicles. Using designated drivers is a great strategy!

    TEAM Georgia Designated Driver Numbers

    October 2015

TEAM Georgia is making a difference with keeping our roads safer and these numbers help portray that. Our volunteers for the Falcons games have signed up 2,771 designated drivers already this season. The screen shot above shows where TEAM Georgia stands in just the south. Please follow this link to see where we stand among all the NFL teams: 2015 NFL Designated Driving Standings

TEAM Georgia Designated Driver Program at The Georgia Dome!

    September 2015

TEAM Georgia now has 8 designated driver sign up locations at the Georgia Dome, including our new Falcon's Landing Booth. Volunteers at all booths encourage fans to sign up to pledge that they will not drink and drive after the event. Once a fan signs up to be a DD, they are given a free soda coupon to redeem during the game. Additionally, by signing up, the designated driver is immediately entered into a raffle to win two club level tickets to the next Falcons home game. Our hope is that these incentives will encourage more fans to sign up and take the pledge.

    September Volunteer Drawing

    September 1, 2015

For September, we will be continuing our TEAM Georgia contest and drawing to give all our volunteers a little more incentive to work at Braves games in September. We will select one male and one female winner to receive this prize.

Team Georgia Designated Driver Booths at Turner Field

What a season Team Georgia had with the Atlanta Braves for 2014! With 81 home games played, we increased our designated driver sign ups from 12,739 in 2013 to 14,353 in 2014. That’s an 8.5% increase year over year.

For the record, 2014 was our first full year we had two designated driver booths open and operational at Braves home games. Our newest booth, the Coors Light Booth, is located by the northwest entrance gate at Turner Field and did a great job in securing the additional sign ups necessary to experience an increase this year. As always, our Budweiser designated driver booth did its usual great job in having fans sign up as DDs for the games.

TEAM Georgia Designated Driver Booth at Falcons’ Landing

On September 18, 2014, Team Georgia opened its first designated driving booth at Falcons Landing prior to our game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Falcons’ Landing is the new area outside the Georgia Dome where many pregame Falcons spirit activities take place before each home game. Jessica Thurston from Team Coalition in Washington, DC was on hand and took part in the activation prior to the game against our rivals--the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jessica will return to Atlanta on December 28th, when the Falcons play our other rivals--the Carolina Panthers.
