TEAM Georgia's annual Safe Holiday Campaign has strengthened its line-up for 2007, partnering with both The Atlanta Thrashers and Atlanta Hawks to encourage sober driving and safe holiday gatherings during the coming weeks. Officials from TEAM Georgia and the Governor's Office of Highway Safety will be joined by the Atlanta Hawks and Thrashers, metro Atlanta leaders from government, business, tourism and the hospitality industry for the launch of the 2007 TEAM Georgia Safe Holiday Campaign on Thursday, Dec. 6 at the City Grill. The event will include a model safe holiday celebration.
Now in its second decade, the TEAM Georgia Safe Holiday Campaign urges businesses, private hosts and members of the hospitality industry to put the safety of employees, guests and patrons first during the holiday season. A long-standing community tradition for the Atlanta Hawks, the Safe Holiday Campaign now welcomes the Atlanta Thrashers to the TEAM. The Hawks' Al Horford, and the Thrashers’ Todd White will serve as Safe Holiday "spokesplayers." Both organizations are active members of TEAM Georgia and participate in TEAM Georgia's Designated Driver Booth program at Philips Arena.
The Safe Holiday Campaign involves more than 200 area bars and restaurants that display Safe Holiday information, offer a free non-alcoholic drink to designated drivers, and inform patrons about the free ride home available from Checker Cab. In cooperation with The Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the campaign's 2007 Safe Holiday Guide will reach thousands of Georgia businesses and private hosts with safe celebration suggestions, plus safety and legal reminders for party goers.
In Georgia, 35 percent of traffic crash fatalities are alcohol-related.
Over the past decade, the highest number of crashes in Georgia occurred from Oct-Dec.
The chance of a crash being fatal is six times higher in crashes with an impaired driver.
