Brief Overview of the Organization
Since 1985, TEAM Georgia has worked to save lives and reduce injuries on Georgia's roads and waterways. TEAM Georgia draws on the support of public safety officials, law enforcement, professional sports teams and venues and a wide range of corporations and individual volunteers to end impaired driving. Through public education programs like Safe Prom, Safe Holiday and the Designated Driver Booths at Atlanta's highly-trafficked sporting and cultural arenas, TEAM Georgia works with the Governor's Office of Highway Safety in a community-wide effort to stop these needless tragedies by targeting the most at-risk populations and occasions.
Our mission is to encourage safe and sober driving to reduce transportation crashes, injuries and fatalities. We encourage the public to get involved and help us achieve our goals and become a part of TEAM Georgia.
Organization's Major Achievements
TEAM Georgia reflects a true public-private sector approach to combat the ills of impaired driving throughout the state of Georgia. Toward that end, TEAM Georgia partners with a range of organizations. At Safe Holiday, TEAM works with the Georgia Restaurant Association, AAA-Budweiser/Tow-to-Go and Atlanta Checker Cab in the effort to identify inebriated patrons and advise them of a free ride home. On St. Patrick's Day in Savannah, home to the second largest St. Patrick's Day celebration in the country, TEAM Georgia works with Budweiser to promote safe celebrations through press conferences and PSAs. TEAM Georgia also takes its message to the waterways with its Safe Boating campaign, which features conferences and programs at lakes across Georgia, encouraging safe skippers. The Designated Driver Booth Program, TEAM Georgia's flagship program, takes the message of safe and sober driving to Atlanta's entertainment destinations: its major sports and cultural venues. Located in Philips Arena, the Arena at Gwinnett Center, the Georgia Dome and Turner Field, the Designated Driver Booth Program creates a complete experience for patrons that encourages safe and sober driving. Vouchers for non-alcoholic drinks, endorsements by "spokesplayers" and PSAs that run on stadium jumbotrons encourage patrons to designate a driver and save lives.
In appreciation for its efforts, TEAM Georgia is routinely recognized on the field at the Atlanta Braves stadium each season. TEAM Georgia also won the very first MADD award for nonprofits, the 2009 Outstanding Nonprofit Organization of the Year. In addition, TEAM Georgia is the recipient of the 2011-2012 Governor's Office of Highway Safety Innovative Grant.
